GLASGOW 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES

COMMONWEALTH SPORT SECURITY ADVISERS FOR THE 2026 GLASGOW COMMONWEALTH GAMES

The spectacular 2026 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, on 2 August at the OVO Hydro indoor arena, signaled the conclusion of 10 days of international sports competitions. All 74 competing nations and territories indicated great satisfaction with the conduct of the event, including with safety and security.

There is no doubt Glasgow and Scotland delivered a hugely successful games.

IR has been the security advisers to Commonwealth Sport (CS) since 2004 – having provided planning, assurance and delivery support for six Commonwealth Games and six Commonwealth Youth Games.

IR is now providing preparatory security advice for CS on the 2027 Malta Youth Games and the 2030 Amdavad Commonwealth Games in Gujarat State, India.

After Glasgow was awarded the 2026 games at relatively short notice (due to the unexpected withdrawal of the original host), IRs project lead, Robert Delaney, represented CS in comprehensive security planning and assurance for approximately two years. Rob deployed to Glasgow pre-games to participate in daily meetings with the Organising Company, Police Scotland and other security stakeholders and to coordinate CS security responsibilities for the duration of the games.

While in Glasgow, Rob was also involved in the CS’ Future Host Cities Forum and supporting the 12th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting (CSMM).
