Eliza Thorn: Intelligent Risks Manager Queensland, New Zealand And Pacific
Keynote Address To Asial Briefing

Eliza Thorn was awarded the Outstanding Security Professional Award (OSPA) as the outstanding Australian female security manager for 2021. As the current OSPA winner, Eliza was invited to address the Australian Security Industry Association Ltd (ASIAL) Industry Breakfast Briefing in March at the Hillstone in Brisbane.

Eliza reflected on some key aspects of her career in the industry – in Australia, Thailand, Iraq and East Timor – and the rich and varied opportunities available both nationally and internationally.

Being International Women’s Day, Eliza also spoke about the relative under-representation of women across the industry, and the importance of attracting more professional women into the sector.

Eliza spoke about her experiences working with Intelligent Risks (IR) across a diverse range of projects – including security risk assessments, security design and planning, international major event projects (like the successful bid for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics), crisis management (including on IR’s Afghanistan evacuation operations).

Eliza also spoke about the importance of both passion and compassion to be a successful security professional: both qualities that are highly valued in IR. The security industry offers women – and men – the opportunity to make a discernable difference and IR is always pleased to support forums like the ASIAL briefing.
