Edith Cowan University City Campus, Perth Australia
Edith Cowan University City Campus
In April 2021, IR was contracted to provide security risk and consultancy services for the new A$853m Edith Cowan University (ECU) city campus being developed in central Perth.
The ECU City campus will be a Creative Industries, Business and Technology Campus in the heart of the Perth CBD. It will become the home for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), including performance spaces expected to host over 300 performances every year.
This is the flagship project for the 13.5-hectare Perth City Link infrastructure, an investment by the Western Australian Government and the Australian Commonwealth Government to revitalise the Perth CBD. The campus will sit above tunnelled rail and the newly constructed Perth Busport.
The design intent is to deliver an iconic campus representing the future of university education; urban, connected and integrated with business and the wider community.
IR provided a comprehensive suite of security design consulting services to the ECUCC project. This included a Security Strategy, a Security Risk Assessment (SRA), a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Report, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Assessment; and an array of security design development guidance to support planning submissions. We also completed design reviews of detailed security systems.
IR leveraged its extensive experience in the built environment and education sectors to ensure a risk-based approach to security was integrated into ECUCC design development at an early stage. We engaged with ECU and a cross-functional consultancy team to develop security solutions that are proportionate and tailored to the specific needs of a complex, state-of-the-art university campus.
